GRE ID requirements in Taiwan (2026)
In Taiwan, LTTC, which runs the GRE there, requires a valid passport with your photo and signature. Only if a Taiwanese candidate's passport is lost or expired does it accept the ROC National ID card together with one listed second document. Mainland residents need their travel permit for Taiwan.

The checker catches what this page can't: a name that doesn't match your registration, an expiry date, or a missing supplemental ID.
Accepted
- Passport
- Fallback for Taiwanese citizens only: ROC National ID card plus one of the 台胞證, a foreign driver license, a current student ID or a school identity letter
- Mainland residents: travel permit for Taiwan
Not accepted
- The ROC National ID card on its own
- A Taiwanese driver license
- The Alien Resident Certificate
Rules that apply everywhere
- Your first and last names must match your ETS account exactly, accents aside. A middle initial is optional.
- The ID must be valid on test day. We treat an ID that expires on the exam day itself as expired.
- Bring the physical original: no photocopies, scans or photos on your phone.
- The ID must show your name, a recent photo and your signature.
Questions
Can I take the GRE in Taiwan with my National ID card?
Not on its own: it has no English name or signature. LTTC requires a passport; the ROC ID card is only accepted together with a second listed document when your passport is lost or expired.
