IELTS ID requirements: what to bring on test day

For IELTS, bring the exact ID document you registered with: same document, same number. It must be valid on test day, and the name, date of birth and expiry date on your booking must match it exactly. A different document, even a new valid passport, won't be accepted.

The checker catches what this page can't: a name that doesn't match your registration, an expiry date, or a missing supplemental ID.

What the test centre checks

If something doesn't match

Contact your test centre as soon as possible: many can correct a booking or switch the document before the deadline. If they can't, cancelling and re-booking with the right document is the only safe option, so ask about refunds or transfers first.

Iran

IELTS testing in Iran is suspended: IDP stopped all testing on 31 January 2026. Candidates need to book in another country.

Questions

I renewed my passport after booking IELTS. Can I bring the new one?

Not without telling your test centre. The document on your booking must be the one you bring, so ask the centre to update your booking to the new passport as soon as possible.

My middle name is missing from my IELTS booking. Is that a problem?

It can be: names are compared character by character. Ask your test centre whether it matters for your booking and whether they can correct it.

Can I use a photo of my passport on my phone?

No. Bring the original document.
